ACHE South Planning Meeting

The ACHE South planning committee is meeting this week in Cocoa Beach, Florida. If you are looking for a great beach destination April 2010, the ACHE South Conference will be an ideal spot. The hotel is located just one block from "I Dream of Jeannie" Lane, so if you are hunting for Jeannie or Major Nelson this is the place to be. There is a trolley system (cost $1.25/ride) that will help tote you to destinations like the Brevard Zoo, Port Canaveral, the Kennedy Space Center, or the Astronauts Hall of Fame. And if you'd prefer just laying by the beach, the hotel is right on the water and has a tiki bar by the pool. The conference itself will offer (as usual) a program full of networking, best practices, and keynoters. Theme soon to follow.

  1. The cast and crew of "I Dream of Jeannie" visited Cocoa Beach, Florida twice in 1969. On June 27th a parade in Cocoa Beach escorted Eden and the rest of the cast to the Cocoa Beach City Hall where she was greeted by her fans and city officials made her welcome. After this event she and cast were taken to the Air Force Station at Cape Canaveral where a special ceremony awaited her where she pressed a button that launched a weather rocket. Following they had dinner at Bernard's Surf where she was presented the State of Florida's Commodore Award for outstanding acting and later the entourage went to Lee Caron's Carnival Club where she was showered with gifts. She kissed astronaut Buzz Aldrin on the cheek here just two weeks before he made his trip on Apollo 11.

Due to dwindling TV ratings, the crew and cast returned to the Space Coast on November 25th, 1969 for a mock wedding at the Patrick Air Force Base Officers Club. The governor of Florida Claude Kirk attended this event and cut the cake for the couple. Barbara Eden returned 27 years (July 1996) later as a featured speaker for Space Days at Kennedy Space Center and she was presented a street sign bearing the name, "I Dream of Jeannie Lane", by City of Cocoa Beach Mayor Joe Morgan.

  2. I love the description. Do I actually have to attend the conference or can I just lay on the beach?
